Late May, warm weather and heavy rain have made the world insanely green recently! It has mostly been a warm spring and we are all grateful. Even the Victoria Day long weekend was summer-like which maybe proves my theory that if we cancelled all holidays and events the weather would be great all the time. It's hard to recall recent events, it's the usual stupid usually followed by more, these days it's all about reopening everything. The US is charging ahead with opening, ignoring all the numbers, and just doing whatever, there are some precautions but mostly it's just hoards and hoards of people on the beach or on patios because if you're outside it's safe right!?!? The experts are now saying everyone should wear a mask and the US is saying don't worry too much about surfaces, it's not so much about touching things it's more about breathing, like what I said about jogging/cycling earlier! Sheesh!!! I think it's like when we discovered that condoms prevented AIDS, it will slow down infection rates with altered behaviour, if we all wear a mask and still isolate and social distance we could slow it down yet you see hoards of Americans not wearing a mask because you know freedom!I think it deliciously ironic that we now know the virus can be spread especially thru singing, it happened with a choir and also with loud talking! At last a virus that could wipe out the loud talking American! It's not all bad! We also saw a hoard of badly behaved Millennials in Toronto not social distancing in a park, urinating behind peoples houses and generally acting like idiots while the police looked on, so it's not only stupid Americans it's also stupid Canadians, mostly of a certain age group 20's and 30's, sorry it's not a group of 50 somethings acting like this! The poor kids, they were never told no by their parents and have such empty lives they have to get out and do something!!! Also the mayor of Toronto was there, with a mask, but not wearing it on his face because "people couldn't hear him" huh, I see reporters with masks on on the news. What a guy, Ontario is always blessed with the best politicians! It's all reckless and foolish mark my words. We are slowly opening things in Calgary too, although we still have new cases all the time, I think it's stupid and too early but people just can't stand it anymore! Apparently hairstylists/barbers are what people missed the most, WTF, all we have to do to bring down society is take away hairstylists and toilet paper. People can go golfing, play tennis and go to the zoo in limited numbers with a prepurchased ticket, it keeps people out of the dog park so I like that! Both of my young neighbours were out all Sunday doing something, it's just so hard to stay home! Oh well, I don't like everyone home all the time either!
I think it is quite telling that the top 3 countries with covid19 are the US, Brazil and Russia, kicking the European countries out of the top spots. Could it be that these 3 countries are led by evil despots who don't care what happens to their citizens or understand one thing about science? Sure seems that way! In Alberta cases number over 6800, Calgary has over 4700 while Edmonton has just 523 but hey lets open the malls!!! Oh yeah that's another thing that is open now. I just don't think its wise to reopen with nearly 50 new cases in Calgary a day!
I was out shopping this morning and found it quite nice, few people, the panic seems over, there was even one packet of yeast left to which I said "aren't people over this yet?" really, the bread making is so last week already, it's also too warm now for a bunch of baking! On my way out I noticed a bunch of old men lined up, it was for the barber, not lined up 6 feet apart mind you because I don't think most elderly people don't care or understand. And being in the NE most of these men were brown skinned of mystery origin I imagine them saying in an Indian accent "this hair is too long what am I one of the Beatles?" Geeze people really don't care of their own hair, I did not know this before!
Our old neighbours came by for a visit, they are both elderly with heart disease so I wish them the best, they seem to be taking this a little more seriously than my mom for example but I also think they listen to their Dr's to a degree as well, my mom doesn't even see a Dr. on a regular basis. I am afraid of a second wave, experts say it will hit in the winter and combined with regular flu could be super deadly but it's summer now everyone head out and get drunk and talk loud at each other what could possibly happen???

A Pandemic Journal, Live and Let Die Mothers Day
Time just keeps rolling along, was laying in bed thinking soon summer will be here then it will be over and the next time I wake up it will be Christmas again! After a week of summer like temps we have been slammed with cold and morning flurries Sunday making for a chilly indoor Mothers Day. We invited my mom over for appetizers and to surprise her with the gift of a new refrigerator being delivered on Tuesday. She always loves coming here and was very happy with the gift. My mom believes that the virus is made in a lab in China to show the world how powerful they are, her source is some newspaper she picked up somewhere and a right wing radio show. Oh boi!
Last year I started keeping track of my grocery bill to see if we fell into the national average and to compare what other people say they spend, turns out we are slightly below or near average but way below what many we know spend, and keep in mind we rarely eat out either, probably 99% of our meals are at home, it's just a hassle and too expensive to go out. I've been hearing that people are spending like crazy on groceries and I am no exception, I spent more than double last month but in my defense I have been stocking up on meat with all the meat plant problems all over North America, now I have zero freezer space!
A lot of people think Trump will be the "drink bleach" President which is probably true but for me I will also remember the time he visited a mask factory, not wearing a mask and bizarrely the Gun's N' Roses cover Live and Let Die suddenly blaring in the factory, do they always blare music? I don't think so, and with Trumps cool-no reaction to such a bizarre thing occurring we know he was behind this for a news clip. But really stop and think about this, they are saying that is OK if old people die for the economy, it's Satanic! We are finding out that children are dying from an inflammatory syndrome related to the virus, 3 have died in New York recently, I always thought people could deal with the elderly dying but if this gets to kids get ready for a full societal freakout!!!
We have also found out that a valet (who serves the President food) has the virus, as well an aide to Pence, an aide to the First Lady, the seemingly Jewish wife of NeoNazi Stephen Miller and also people surrounding the top Dr's Fauci and Dr. Redfield? Renfield (lol, that's a character in Dracula) whatever that guys name is, the one with the Hutterite beard, so many people with covid circling the inner workings of the White House! And will they wear masks? No, Trump thinks it will make him look silly or people will use it against him! Sheesh, you'd think he be more worried about his recent sweaty appearance at the Lincoln monument where his skin looks even more like raw hamburger than ever, eccch so gross! So yeah, live and let die eh? (to use an old Canadianism)
There are many places planning on opening in the southern states of course but also in Canada too, I think it is foolish and the pandemic will get worse this summer, we will see but I cannot imagine that the virus will stop until it reaches every human on Earth. I was calling it a time out from Nature the same day Michael Moore said the same thing in an interview a few weeks ago! Great minds think alike!
Disneyland China has reopened but with only 30% capacity and many distancing measures in place on the rides and no contact with the characters (fine with me!) and apparently people are quite happy with the experience. So it would seem the Chinese have just learned something that we already know in the West, that not being surrounded by Chinese people is a very nice thing!!! If you laughed you are so much more racist than me for writing it!!!
I just don't see how we are going to keep up the distancing measures, everywhere people are clumping together, especially the 20 somethings, even my other neighbours had a birthday party on the weekend, outside, in the chilly weather! I just don't need to yak about nonsense to other people that much I guess!? A Pandemic Journal, I'm Over It Now Tell My Subconscious That!
The great weather, outdoor work, and avoiding news had me feeling pretty good recently until I couldn't sleep last night. So many anxiety dreams all about the virus, I had one where there were a bunch of people in the side yard and they were all too close, milling around, get out of here! Geeze. I think I got about 5 hours at most, watched some Youtube, funny covid memes, good stuff!
Recently I have taken to wearing a mask in public, like many people, but I find it fogs up my glasses too much so I can't wear them, then I have to go around squinting all the time and with my permanent angry demeanor I must look real friendly! I just can't shake the anger, I hate people being too close and too stupid about everything, not caring or seeming to or being too happy! Now I think people are slowing down, just sauntering around the grocery store and driving like this is a town of 2,000 people or something, like we have all the time in the world.
We have almost 4,000 cases in the Calgary Health Zone compared to Edmonton at about 500 and Kenney wants to start opening up by mid May!? It seems crazy to me but North Americans have so much quarantine fatigue! Sheet you should have lived thru AIDS, it (the fear) only lasted 20 years or so!Yes, life is a drag sometimes isn't it? Americans are completely nuts of course and we see footage of crowded beaches, Parks employees being pushed into bodies of water out of rage, tough guys brandishing swastikas and Confederate flags in scuffles with authority, the last one had me yelling at the TV last night and coming to the conclusion that I hope they just all die then! I am so tired of the stupidity coming from the US and infecting our nice little country it's almost as bad as a virus itself! Maybe it will kill stupid people? We can only hope, probably not enough!!!
Canada has pledged $850 million in an international effort to find a vaccine in conjunction with Bill and Melinda Gates Fund, I think it's the most of any country and of course the US is contributing nothing! I think they should be last in line if one is found! Trump made such a big deal about NATO contributions and we should be cut off for not chipping in, well the battle is with a virus now so put your money where your mouth is orange one!
I'm also still fuming about a conversation I had with my millennial neighbours recently, he starting talking shit about Trudeau and saying "Trudeau is so stupid" stupid about what I don't know, the pipeline stuff? Who cares about that now? Kenney is spending One Billion $$$ of our money on the Keystone Pipeline in the middle of a pandemic! To an industry on shakey ground and a pipeline in question especially if Biden gets elected, sheesh! I came to the conclusion in my head later that I will start asking Conservative voters/supporters why no smart people support Conservative ideals!? Who are Conservative intellectuals, thinkers, cool people, influential people? You don't have any! Why would nice young people want to get involved with racists, religious, misogynist, homophobic, climate denying people? When it comes to Conservatives where da smart and cool people at? It seems to me the left wing liberal folks have all the interesting and cool people, influential and young! Trump has killed the right for now! I predict they will be back in a few years or if we're lucky die out from this virus! I hope so!
This was the weekend we were supposed to attend the New Wave music fest Cruel World in Los Angeles, while it was not 25 degrees here, it was close tho! I listened to some of the bands while hanging out in the awesome weather we were having here and thinking will we ever have things like concerts again? I'm in no hurry to get up close and personal with a bunch of people! It is sad but nothing like having my family die from this virus so I try to keep perspective.
It is quite chilly and rainy today so many inside activities, the tulips will be happy at least!
